Machine and Kasabian dominate the nominations in this year's MOJO Honours List.

'Rabbit Heart' singer Florence Welch is up for four prizes, including Best Live Act and Best Album for her debut 'Lungs', at the annual awards ceremony hosted by the British music magazine and voter for by readers.
Kasabian are also named in the same two categories - the latter for their 'West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum' LP - as well as picking up a nomination for Song Of The Year for their single 'Fire'.  The other nominees for Best Album are Paul Weller's recent release 'Wake Up The Nation', Richard Hawley's 'Truelove's Gutter' and harpist Joanna Newsom's 'Have One On Me'. In the Song Of The Year category 'Fire' is joined by Florence's cover of Candi Staton's 'You've Got The Love', Richard Hawley with 'Open Up Your Door', Arctic Monkeys' 'Crying Lightning' and Rage Against The Machine's UK Christmas 2009 number one single 'Killing In The Name'. Receiving the MOJO Maverick award will be legendary psychedelic space rockers Hawkwind. Editor-in-chief of the magazine, Phil Alexander, said of the group: "From psychedelia to punk to stoner rock, from free festival culture and on to the rave and trance scenes, you can hear and feel their influence everywhere. In fact Hawkwind are more than just a band, they're a mindset, a way of life." Other accolades to be handed out at the ceremony, which will be held on June 10 at The Brewery in London, include the MOJO Icon Award and MOJO Classic Album.

Florence writing 'crystal' album

Florence Welch, of Florence and the Machine, says the follow-up to her debut Lungs will explore a 'crystal' theme. The singer began recording new tracks with producer Paul Epworth at the beginning of 2010. Speaking to Newsbeat, Welch said: "There's a song called Spectrum which has a lot to do with rainbows and prisms - so it has taken on a lot more of a crystal theme." "I did a song inspired by these two atomic particles called strangeness and charm, now everyone thinks I'm going to do an album about the periodic table - which I'm not." She added: "But that would be a good concept album though. You could go into schools and get people back into science."
'More chemical'
Lungs spent 28 consecutive weeks in the UK album chart before finally reaching number one in January 2010. The south London singer explained that the album will see a change in her lyrical themes. "The atmosphere is quite tough but the lyrics are moving away from gothic horror toward something that's slightly more chemical."
"It's ages away from finished yet though."

Chris Moyles unveiled the line-up of over 30 UK and international artists who will be playing on the two main stages during his show, with a bit of help from fellow Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe.
Other artists include Scouting for Girls, Biffy Clyro, JLS, the Lostprophets, Kids in Glass Houses and Marina & The Diamonds.
BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend is the station's flagship event and the UK's biggest free ticketed festival. Around 40,000 fans can enjoy performances from four stages in Vaynol Estate - the Main Stage; the In New Music We Trust Stage; the Outdoor Stage and the BBC Introducing Stage.
For listeners tuning in there will also be exclusive Live Lounge sessions broadcast from backstage.

Jason Carter, Radio 1's editor for live music and events, says: "We've pulled out all the stops for our tenth BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend with an outstanding line-up of the best UK and international talent, along with new and emerging artists.
"It's a great opportunity to put a national focus on north Wales as Radio 1 brings two days of distinctive programming encompassing the very best live music, fantastic sets and some original collaborations."
For those who aren't lucky enough to get a ticket there will be coverage on radio, online, TV and the red button.
"We're very proud to welcome these talented artists to Gwynedd," said Iwan Trefor Jones, corporate director of Gwynedd Council. "We look forward to showing the world what makes Gwynedd a great place to live, work and visit."
Fringe events
There are 40,000 tickets available across the weekend. Tickets are free, but last year over 350,000 people applied for them and demand is expected to be huge again this year.
Each lucky applicant will receive a pair of tickets for either Saturday or Sunday. Tickets will be allocated randomly, but weighted in favour of those living in Bangor and across north Wales, with a smaller amount distributed nationally.
On Wednesday (28 April) Huw Stephens' Radio 1 show (9-10pm) will announce the bands and venues for the fringe events in the run up to the Big Weekend, while the line-up for the Outdoor Stage will be announced by Annie Mac on Thursday while she deputises for Fearne Cotton (10am-1pm).

Gig of the Week : Florence and the Machine @ The Olympia

OK so we wont win any awards for originality this week. We could easily have gone with the IMRO Showcase Best Of gig but felt back to back IMRO was a bit too preachy.  Also we could have went with the awesome Foal playing The Academy with Bombay Bicycle Club. It free into that if you registered.
However with two sold out dates in The Olympia Theatre and having seen her live at Electric Picnic last year i can attest to the fact that Florence is absolutely stunning live and will be a gig locked firmly in the memory banks of those who attend.
Its sold out, so we aren’t really selling the gig to new people, though you might get lucky if you  chance a dance over on tout-less Florence Thread but unless your willing to go alone. i cant see many selling two tickets on there at the moment.
Also this week we have Josh Ritter playing The Grand Canal Theatre tonight and Roesy also is playing Whelans
Wednesday see’s Foal play the Academy, Australian Pink Floyd drop by The O2, EarCandy are in The Village and Crystal Antlers are joined by Cast of Cheers in Whelans
Thursday we gave away tickets to see Idlewild so if you were lucky your going along to see that, JD Set host their final in The Village with a host of top Irish acts and Word Play have an album launch in twisted pepper.
Crystal Swing play Dandeline on Friday night at midnight and Lauren Guillery is in The Mezz, Surfer Blood play the Academy (were giving away the tickets at 4pm today, don’t forget to enter) and Mick Flannery plays Vicar Street, Saturday see’s Cheryl Cole support Black Eyed Peas which im sure will be a fun gig.
Sunday see’s Gil Scott-Heron play Tripod, Jogging have an album launch in Whelans and Florence against the Machine will be in The Olympia Sunday and Monday.

Florence and the Machine Bring Dance Grooves on New Album -- Exclusive Video

Florence and the Machine's debut album 'Lungs' has garnered praise from critics and music lovers alike and won numerous awards, including Best British Album at the 2010 Brit Awards. Surprisingly, Florence Welch reveals that 'Lungs' almost didn't see the light of day.

"I didn't even want to release it," Welch tells Spinner. "I was so scared. You can't even think what people's reactions are going to be because it's like someone reading your diary then judging it."

Luckily for us, Welch released the record and is now in the midst of working on her follow-up album. While the band is still in the thick of the recording process, she admits they've been listening to more upbeat music and that the new material will be "something that people will want to dance to."

"This time around, we've kind of been listening to a lot of things like Growing, a lot of strange dance music, atmospheric dance music," she says. "So, that's probably going to influence something."

However being on the road has made Florence and the Machine's recording process a little more interesting. Rather than hitting studios during tour stops, the band has been recording wherever they can with anything at their disposal. "We've been using what we have, like hotel sinks and whatever's in the dressing room," Welch says.

While this approach might present some problems, Welch actually prefers this process to a traditional studio setup. "Actual studios kind of scare me," she says. "They've set me up in a really high-tech studio. I just moved everything into the kitchen. I couldn't handle the big studio."

But as fun as this out-of-the-box recording process is, the band did run into some trouble at one hotel. "It's not a good idea to use a partition wall as a bass drum," she says. "You know when you hear banging on the other side it's not because they're joining in."

When Welch isn't banging on walls, she's a big bookworm -- she even got to review a book for the Brit culture magazine Dazed and Confused. Although she admits that she's not really star-struck by musicians, she copped to getting excited when she met one of her favorite authors, David Vann.

"I was really crazy about it," she says. "I got to meet him and got him to sign something. I'm crazy about authors. I've never asked another musician for an autograph."

To hear more about Welch's upcoming album, check out our exclusive video interview below.

FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE TICKETS CONFIRMED FOR HUGE OUTDOOR SHOW IN CARDIFF

Florence Welch and co, who won best British album at the Brit Awards earlier this year, will perform at the popular city centre park this summer on Thursday 10th June 2010.

Florence And The Machine’s sound has been described as a combination of various genres, including pop, rock and soul. The band’s music received massive praise across the music media before they had even gained mainstream success.

Their debut album “Lungs” was released last year on 6th July and held the No.2 position on the UK Album chart for its first five weeks of release. On 17th January this year, the album made it to No.1 on the UK album chart, having remained in the chart for 28 consecutive weeks up until that point.

Spawning countless hits, Florence And The Machine have had a terrific 2009 and a now face a busy 2010. Recording for the second album is already underway, back at the close of last year Welch revealed to BBC Newsbeat that recording for the second album would begin in January, expressing her enthusiasm to “start recording as soon as possible.” Expected for release in 2011, commenting on the new material, Welch remarked new tracks as being "...a bit more fuzzy, a bit harder. If the first album was animal and anatomical I think this one is chemical and elemental.”

With the singer confirmed for a series of festivals this year including Oxegen, T In The Park, V Festival and a headline slot at Latitude, the addition of this huge outdoor gig in the heart of the Welsh Capital will give fans plenty of opportunity to hear live some classics from the stunning debut album, as well as some new material set for release on the follow-up.

Florence & The Machine: 'I Have Meltdowns'

Florence & The Machine star Florence Welch has admitted that she is still struggling to come to terms with her sudden success.  In February, the singer capped a whirlwind 12 months when her debut album 'Lungs' was named Best British Album at the Brit Awards.  But despite being accepted by critics and the British public, Welch has revealed that she still feels overwhelmed.  “I just feel a bit shell-shocked and tired,” she said. “Before the Brits I was in Japan and then I’ve been in Europe, travelling through every country.  “I’ve had times when I’ve just turned up in a hotel in Stockholm and gone into a meltdown. Crying and feeling lonely.” But Welch, who suffers from dyslexia and dysmetria, said that her father was “fantastically good” at helping her to calm down. In an interview with Grazia magazine, the singer also spoke about her new album, which she described as “dancey”. And despite a lack of confidence, Welsh said she didn't “feel pressurised at all” with the follow-up to her debut. Buy Florence and the Machine Tickets or Sell Florence and the Machine Tickets through YourTicketMarket.com. Florence Welch has revealed that she is getting "really into R&B" during her stay in America.
The Florence and the Machine singer, who is currently on a mini-tour in the US, has reportedly performed a cover of Mario Winans ballad 'I Don't Wanna Know'.
"I'm really into R&B and R&B production and sounds and I really loved 'I Don't Wanna Know'," the Daily Star quotes her as saying.
The band recently donated track 'Drumming Song' from their debut LP Lungs to the new FIFA World Cup video game.

Florence and the Machine deliver energized and charming performance

Sometimes it seems like the Brits have all of the musical talent these days. This can be frustrating to any fan because of the shortage of stateside performances. Luckily, Florence and the Machine, one of the most promising musical acts of the moment, graced Chicago with its presence Monday night.
Even after buying my tickets only a few weeks before the show and getting the last available at the cheapest price, I somehow got box seats that looked right over the stage. The House of Blues was a perfect venue for the concert. Its smaller size led to an intimate atmosphere, as every seat was close to the stage.
It truly felt like everyone there recognized the talent of lead singer Florence Welch and connected with her music. The crowd was young and full of energy, with the exception of the strange sightings of several male concert-goers well into their 50s. Who said good taste has an age limit?
Florence and the Machine is a five-member band, but lead singer Florence Welch is undeniably the main attraction. Florence opened the show with “Howl,” and howl she did, but only in the best sense of the word. Listening to recordings of her songs, it is clear she has a strong voice, but it is even more powerful live. The combination of her expressive voice, extravagant outfit and electric stage presence were the perfect addition to her already passionate songs.
Clad in a black lace cape and fedora and going barefoot for most of the show, her look was definitely eccentric, but this Victorian gothic style enhanced the performance. Florence’s songs so easily get under your skin with their raw lyrics and sound. On stage, many of the songs would start with dim lights and just a couple flicks of Florence’s wrists in the spotlight to the beat of the drum. She even sung “Blinding” with her cape pulled over her head. All of this could have come off as extremely weird, but it just all worked.
Florence herself was extremely charming, thanking the audience several times and acknowledging the many calls and compliments from the audience, one of my favorites being, “Florence, you have beautiful feet!”
She involved the audience two times, which made everyone feel able to interact with the show. During “Dog Days Are Over,” which has gained deserved attention recently after being used in several television shows and in the trailer for “Eat, Pray, Love,” Florence had the audience jump at the same time, which actually made the ground shake. When singing “Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up),” the crowd was asked to yell the refrain of “Raise It Up” at different points.
Florence ended the show with that performance after singing all the songs from her album “Lungs,” as well as a lesser-known track from her box set, “Hardest of Hearts.” One of the audience favorites was the soulful cover of “You’ve Got the Love.”
I had to drag a friend along to the show who did not like Florence and the Machine before. But after this entertaining and charged concert even she was won over, which is a testament to Florence’s live presence.
Florence’s talent should continue to be recognized as more people appreciate her incredible voice and songs. At just the start of her career, she has plenty more to offer with her unique and charming style. The often-eerie mood and Florence’s wailing voice (again, in the best sense of the word) surely left concertgoers with a performance to remember.

Florence and the Machine in state of constant

It's been done before, but until Florence Welch came along last year, it hadn't been done lately.
Welch didn't present herself as the latest in a long line of British women singers that would include Joss Stone or Duffy, but went back further to, say, Kate Bush, where a controlled image was total. This would include dance, clothes, image . . .
"I'm definitely creating a total image," Florence agrees. "The staging, the clothes, the look."
Thus there is a different Florence in each video made by Florence and the Machine but, much like '70s David Bowie, it all springs from the same vision no matter the different characterization.
"Music is a very visual thing to me," she continues. "In a lot of ways, you are trying to create a landscape for people."
It's a perspective that has served her well.
Welch has released only one album, last July's Lungs, but it has yielded three hit singles ( "Kiss With a Fist," "Dog Days Are Over" and "Rabbit Heart") and garnered numerous awards.
"It's always nice to win awards, but they don't mean anything," Welch demures. "It's not why I got into this."
There was a Machine, Isabella Machine, and she was Florence Robot, when the duo would appear in London clubs. In time, the name became Florence and the Machine and a band developed. It is this band that is making a second album at long last.
"I think I want to get much more involved," she says of the record production. So far, only three tracks are finished and she is learning that recording axiom that you have your entire life to make your first album but only six months to make your second. Welch doesn't mind, however.
"I had 24 songs to choose from on the first CD," she observes. "So, I'm looking forward to having less. I'm definitely thinking about the songs. I'm thinking about how to make them different. Just because I have a guitar player doesn't mean I have to have a guitar on every track. I want to experiment."
To this end, The Machine has become more of a real band than when Welch started.
"They really understand what I want," she explains. "They give me a lot of room to perform.
"It was a lot of rehearsing. You really have got to choose who you get along with. It gets easier the more you play together."  Buy Florence and the Machine Tickets or Sell Florence and the Machine Tickets through YourTicketMarket.com. Florence and The Machine - Dog Days Are Over

With a headline show at Somerset House recently announced and a near-sold out UK tour in May, not to mention a forthcoming appearance at seminal US festival Coachella, Florence and her mighty machine are on a roll with no sign of stopping.

This looks set to continue with the rousing new single 'Dog Days Are Over', released today. With the album version already at number 21 in the iTunes chart, this track certainly hasn't had its day yet.

Florence and the Machine News

Florence Welch of Florence & The Machine has sparked exciting rumours that she could be set to record a song for the up and coming film in the Twilight series, Eclipse. The  Rabbit Heartsinger announced her enthusiasm at the prospect of contributing to the soundtrack, but admitted that it was yet to be finalised.

In an interview with NME, the fiery-haired  Lungs star said that she would definitely be up for doing a song for the Twilight soundtrack, but that nothing had been confirmed yet. If Florence was to have her song included in the next Twilight film, she would be following in the footsteps of the likes of  Muse,  Editors and  The Killers who all had tracks on the soundtrack for the sequel,  New Moon. The album is due to be released on June 30th. Buy Florence and the Machine Tickets or Sell Florence and the Machine Tickets through YourTicketMarket.com. American band knock back song with Florence and the Machine

HOTLY tipped US band The Drums told Brits winner Florence Welch and her backing group The Machine to beat it when she invited them to collaborate on a track. However, the Brooklyn-based indie poppers admit they'd jump at the chance to sing with Scots artist Edwyn Collins - because he's such a legend.
Frontman Jonathan Pierce told the Razz: "Collaborating with anyone is against what we want to do as a band, unless it is a once-in-a-lifetime thing with Edwyn Collins. "If you do remixes and mash-ups and collaborations every other month, it becomes less important and less potent." The band, who have sold out Glasgow's Classic Grand for their gig on Monday, reckon Florence won't mind the snub, because she's "a smart girl who will understand". And it seems Florence, who will appear on Justin Lee Collins's Good Times show on Five on Monday, got over the knockback pretty fast - because she still asked The Drums to support her on her upcoming Cosmic Love tour. Jonathan said: "Florence sent us a couple of emails through her manager. She's very nice and hand -selected us for the tour here and in the US. "We think she's a really cool girl. Out of all those girls making pop music, we think she's miles ahead of the rest. "She's a smart girl, so she'll understand why we wouldn't collaborate. It's nothing personal." Florence isn't the only one to have been let down gently by the guys. Jonathan said: "We've turned down incredible opportunities. We were asked to do some shows with Iggy Pop. "A lot of bands never say no but it's about staying true. That's not to say we won't slip up. No one's perfect." The Drums, who release new single Best Friend on Sunday, can't wait to play Glasgow on Monday. And they'll be catching up with Collins, whom they first met when they played the NME tour. Jonathan said: "Glasgow is in the top three of places we've been to in the world. "We've only spent a few hours there but I actually told the other guys in the band we should come here to record the next album. There's something special going on there." He admitted their love of Scotland may have something to do with Collins's old band Orange Juice. Jonathan said: "Last month, we got to meet Edwyn Collins and became friends and our dream came true. "He asked us to help write on the new album he's working on.
"We've been keeping in touch over the phone and through email and in the next two weeks we're going into the studio with him."
